The Kuthumba Private Nature Reserve falls inside the recently proclaimed Garden Route National Park. The coastal area is a protected Marine Reserve.
The land is just under 0.4 ha and is bordered by indigenous forest and surrounded by Fynbos. The house was designed and built to work independently of mains water and electricity with solar panels providing both electricity and hot water. The house has a sod roof, and rain water is harvested in three 5,000 litre tanks. A solar pump provides drinking and potable water. Cooking is done with gas. The home has Eskom connection and is connected to the grid.
The main dwelling consists of a large downstairs living area with open plan kitchen, dining and lounge areas. Slightly separate is a study space which is also used as a bedroom. Upstairs is a main bedroom with two basins and a bidet and it has a balcony.
A separate studio holds an additional bedroom and the bathroom with an indoor and outdoor hot shower. A dry composting toilet is attached to this building
A 400 m² wooden deck overlooking the forest surrounds the house.
There is also a Wendy house with attached veranda and deck. The Wendy house can sleep up to four people on bunk beds
The house is fully furnished, and includes a fridge and gas stove. Rates are paid to Bitou Municipality, while monthly levies are also paid to the Kuthumba Home Owners Association who is responsible for the management of the estate.
There are beautiful walks in the forest to Natures Valley while to the west it’s an equally lovely walk to Keurboomstrand along the coast. There are mountain biking trails in the forest. Bird life is prolific and wild pigs, monkeys and bushbuck roam the area. It is a wondrous and peaceful place.
